Lone Survivor is a war drama directed by Peter Berg and stars Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch, Taylor Kitsch and Eric Bana. Four Navy SEALs are ambushed in the forest regions of Afghanistan and must use all their training and extreme valour to survive an oncoming army of Taliban soldiers. Adapted from the New York Times bestseller of the same name, Lone Survivor is a story about an extreme act of valour from four very young men, no matter what the political undercurrent is. Moving at times, the film creates a lot of emotion with this war drama being one of Mark Wahlberg’s best performances since The Fighter. The opening battle scenes give a striking resemblance to Saving Private Ryan, an intense atmosphere with determined characters to overcome their obstacle. An aspect that gets overlooked in these types of films is the sound effects. Creating that much sound for bullets, explosions etc. can be very under appreciated and the technical sound in this film is fantastic. A film to be remembered not only for its bone breaking fight scenes but it’s performance from its lead and well executed directing.
