Review: How To Be Single (2016)

Directed by Christian Ditter, How To Be Single is a romantic comedy that stars Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Leslie Mann, and Alison Brie. Based on the novel of the same name by Liz Tuccillo, the film is about a young woman who attempts to find love in New York City, only to be subdued by the single life.

How To Be Single does not break the barrier of a formulaic romantic comedy, but it does have that quirky side that is brought to the screen by Rebel Wilson. The character of Alice deteriorated towards the end, with the naivety of the character becoming more annoying than cute. Overall, How To Be Single has a promising cast and concept, it just doesn’t have the direction or script to avoid the film being a big cliche.
