Review: San Andreas (2015)

San Andreas is an Action & Adventure summer blockbuster, brought to you by Brad Peyton. The 3-D film stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Paul Giamatti. A seemingly normal day turns to disaster when an earthquake that measures 9.0 on the richter scale begins the most disastrous series of events in history.
It doesn’t hurt once in a while to drop the intellectual, and this movie helps. Over-the-top performances from everyone involved, as I assume most of the acting would have taken place in a green screen environment. The plot is just ridiculous – when you have the world’s manliest man, who is built up to be the saviour of many as a helicopter rescue pilot,  abandons his much needed post to save his family, you can’t help but question the films writing.
It’s not Dwayne Johnson’s fault however, who, despite his over the top insistence of saving his family amid a crisis, delivers the stand out performance. A film to just sit back and watch the cool buildings being destroyed and the super high tsunami heading for San Fransisco.
