Directed, written and starring Ricky Gervais, Special Correspondents is a comedy drama about two news journalists who fake a wartime kidnapping, sparking a manhunt while they hide out in New York City. Gervais is joined by a supporting cast that includes Eric Bana, Vera Farmiga, and Kelly Macdonald.
This film has great promise in terms of its plot, but it fails to live up to any real expectation. I have never been a huge fan of Gervais apart from his work on The Office, so this film had little chance of really turning my head at his acting abilities. The film fails to really get going in terms of drama or comedy, but what it does have in its favour is Eric Bana – the Australian actor forms some entertainment value. There is little to take from this film, and you’d struggle to find anyone who has anything great to say about it. One to avoid.
